Introduction

Turbolarp welcomes you to the 2023 Europa Universalis IV Grandest LAN Party in partnership with Paradox Interactive! We invite you to spend a fantastic couple of days conquering the world together.

This will not be about competition or prizes; we are all here to have fun and play with friends! You might even find a new friend or two with some luck. We aim for this event to be a light-hearted virtual party, and you are encouraged to roleplay the nation(s) you control. We hope the upcoming gameplay will create an epic story of a world history that could have been but never was.

Teams and Nations

We will have 33+ teams at this event, all of which will be three players. Each team will, together, control the same nation throughout the event. You will have to make all the critical decisions with your teammates and suffer the consequences (or reap the rewards!) along with your team.

These teams will be static, meaning you cannot change teams during the event. There will be players from all over the world with varying levels of experience, so it’s okay not to be an expert; at previous editions, there have even been participants playing EUIV for the first time! You don’t need to be an expert on EUIV to forge pacts or contribute to the propaganda channel. The event’s GMs will also be available to answer your questions.

During this event, you can speak directly with your allies and enemies, so it will be possible to carry out diplomacy outside EU IV’s diplomatic mechanisms. Each player represents their nation and may freely participate in all player-to-player negotiations. Every team member may make treaties, plans, arguments, and negotiations on their nation's behalf, whether these be secret or open.

Starting Nation

Participants will start the game with the Nations they have chosen via Nation Form.

Selecting a new nation

Once a team loses control of all their provinces or otherwise decides that it is impossible to continue to play in their current position, they will be allowed to choose a new country.

When a new country is about to be chosen, our GMs will prepare a shortlist of 2-3 Nations for the team to choose from. In some circumstances, teams will be able to ask GMs sure to save edits to make ex-AI countries more playable (see later).

When a new country has been agreed upon, we will wait for the next even-numbered hour (12:00, 14:00, 16:00, etc.) and rehost the game; after that, your team can rejoin your newly chosen country. We encourage you to use this time to relax, socialise, and maybe establish diplomatic relations with your soon-to-be neighbours.

MOD

Everyone should be able to play a viable nation during the game. When choosing new countries during the game, it may be the case that an AI controller has poorly developed a nation or made suboptimal decisions when allocating advancements. In some cases, it would take a lot of game time to bring that nation back to the point that’s enjoyable to play in the multiplayer game. Save file edits may also be considered in case of bugs that disrupt play or break the rules.

Instead of usual save file edits we decided to run a campaign with a mod that will provide basic save edits to the player nations when its needed in real time(those options are available only to GM and NPC nations). Hopefully it will improve the campaign quality of life experience for players and shorten the downtime between rehosts. Some things will be not possible with that solution and we will provide save edits during breaks / between sessions. If you think any save-edits will be necessary at any point, please contact the GM's.

Game Masters Nation

The nation of Khodynt, located in East Siberia, will be controlled by the GMs. This country will stay mostly idle and mainly serve as the game host.

This nation should never be attacked, and we generally ask you to ignore its existence.
