Role-Playing Basics

What is Role-Playing?

To Role-play is to write or speak in a way that suggests that you are a person other than yourself. You will avoid mentioning modern things and do your best to sound old fashioned. It doesn’t matter if you make historical mistakes or something similar since the focus is to have a good time.

Imagine that you are pretending to be someone else, like an actor would do. It could be a defined persona, like an advisor, diplomat, or the actual ruler of your empire, or not defined at all. The most important part is that you’re having fun while doing it!

This is not a competitive multiplayer event, instead, we aim to create an entertaining story through gaming and roleplaying. We aim for light to moderate amounts of Role-Playing to enhance this story. We firmly believe that the nations and their stories will come alive and make heroes and villains that will be remembered in the minds of players and audience many years after this event (yes, League of Irish Pirates, we will sadly always have you in our memories).

Important terms

Examples of RP and OOC:

GMs

GMs may appear in channels (roleplay or not) at any time to deliver a message, make an announcement, or just to role-play with whoever might be there. The only times we will role-play and be In-Game as Game Masters will be during announcements, summaries, role-play events, and at the Legal Court. If you speak with us otherwise, we will be OOC. You may, of course, request a GM to arrive and RP if you have something in mind. Contact us and explain your idea, and we’ll do it if we have the time!

Off-Game Conflicts

If any Off-Game issues should arise, please contact a GM directly or find us in an appropriate Discord channel. Don’t RP this! Instead, clearly tell us OOC what the problem is so we can help you as players to have a better experience.

Summary

Write as your nation or head of state (king, queen etc.) or a state official in an old fashioned way, focus on fun over historic details and don’t be Real-Life offensive (follow the Code of Conduct).
